Purpose and philosophy
The ESA First Aid course is designed for introducing and developing techniques and theoretical knowledge related to First Aid. Its purpose is to make it easier for non paramedics to offer help and assist victims of an accident. In the first minutes of an accident there are usually no paramedics around. Most of the time the people around are friends, relatives or people who just happen to pass by. In case of an cardiac arrest, suffocation, loss of conscienceness or serious hemorrhages it is important to intervene as soon as possible to maintain a victim's vital functions as to increase the changes of survival of the victim and await the arrival of paramedic personnel. It is therefore important to teach as many people as possible the fundamental techniques of first aid. In case of an accident they will be able to offer help to a victim by effectively administering First Aid. You will find all the outlines for the ESA First Aid course in the ESA First Aid manual.
